Get Reel Movie Club
... where you can get together with friends and watch a great movie!
Think book club, but for movies! The potential problem with a book club is that you may not have time (or even interest) to finish the book. With a movie club, however, there is little to do in advance as we watch the feature together and then discuss what we watched afterwards. The only requirements are these -- that you enjoy fellowship, fun, and watching movies that have been curated for their relevance and suitability to encourage movie lovers and small groups to reflect critically and theologically. We analyze the spiritual content of top films from the 1980s through the 2010s, opening viewers up to a conversation about life, faith, and God. To facilitate these discussions, the 2019 Get Reel Movie Club format follows the book God in the Movies, A Guide for Exploring Four Decades of Film.
Moreover, participants gather for a potluck dinner! The general idea, then, is for us to read the introduction ahead of time, share a meal, watch the movie together, all followed by discussion with dessert. We pass the book along to whomever wishes to host the next meeting. The host will then select the movie and date for that month.
If you have any questions, please contact Karla Probert.
